Wear A Scary Costume For Halloween

Do you want to send a chill down everyone’s spine this Halloween?  If so, then look no further than our gruesome selection of scary costumes.  When you think about Halloween you normally associate it with horror, death and evil, but why is this?

Halloween has its origins in the Catholic Church and comes from “All Hallows Eve”, a day in honor of saints observed on November 1st.  However, over time, the stories and traditions of Halloween have changed from generation to generation.  One story says that on this day disembodied spirits of all those who have died throughout the preceding year will come back in search of living bodies to possess.

Naturally, the living don’t want to be possessed, and so on October 31st people would put out fires in their homes to make them cold and undesirable.  They would then dress up in all manner of scary and ghoulish costumes and noisily parade around their neighborhood to frighten away the spirits looking for bodies to possess.

If you want to scare your friends, family and neighborhood this Halloween, then have a look at our selection of some of the scariest costumes. Click on any link and you’ll find even more costumes for adults, teen and kids.

Other customs associated with Halloween are trick-or-treating and placing jack-o-lantern, traditionally made from a pumpkin, in the window of your house to ward off evil spirits.

However, Halloween is best known for its scary and horror filled imagery normally involving death, evil, the occult, magic or monsters.  Traditional characters include the devil, witches, werewolves, zombies, mummies and skeletons. A whole genre of films have been made about Halloween, notably the Halloween series, as well as other bone-chilling horror movies set to scare the daylights out of you.

Scary Halloween Movies

Let’s take a look at the Halloween series of moves – scary at its very best!

Halloween I (1978) starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance.  The original and some say the best of the Halloween series. If you love movies full of relentless terror then this is for you.

Halloween II (1981) starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence. Grisly sequel with strange tales of druids, pagans and nasty murders. The storyline continues on directly from the first movie.

Halloween III – Season of the Witch (1982) starring Tom Atkins, Jadeen Barbor. Full of far-fetched Halloween horror tales. The storyline has no connection with the events of Halloween I and II.

Halloween 4 – The Return of Michael Myers (1988) starring Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell. A movie that delivers shocks, stabs, cold cruel killings dominated by a killer with superhuman powers. The story again follows the Michael Myers of the first two in the series.

Halloween 5 – The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) starring Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell.  This is a dark, thrill ride that will scare the heck out of you! The story continues directly from Halloween 4.

Halloween 6 – The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) starring Donald Pleasence, Paul Rudd. One of the most frightening chapters in the chilling Halloween series. The story continues six years after the events of Halloween 5.

Halloween H20 – Twenty Years Later (1998). This smart, suspenseful bone-chilling thriller sees the return of the original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. The events are 20 years after the events of the second film in the series.

Halloween – Resurrection (2002) starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Tyra Banks.  Another violent and horror filled movie in the Halloween series. This film picks up the story three years after Halloween H20.
