Scarecrow Costumes

Due to the Industrial Revolution and the increase in farming technology the use of scarecrows has become less popular. Scarecrows use to be familiar figures in rural landscapes throughout the world, usually depicted as a human figure dressed in old clothes.  They were placed in fields by farmers in order to scare off birds such as crows in order to stop them from disturbing recently cast seeds and feeding on growing crops.

Scarecrows, as the name infers, were only meant to scare off birds. However, in more recent times there has been a crop of horror movies showing scarecrows as scary living monsters. Examples of these films are Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) and Scarecrow (1988).

wickedofozskarecrowWho can forget the wonderful scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz who only wanted a brain?   However, if you want a scary version, then you might want to take a look at the Wicked of Oz Skarecrow Adult costume shown on the left. This includes a frightening mask with red stitching, patched up shirt, matching pants and a witch style hat.  He might not have a brain, but add a scythe and a crow and he’ll scare the living daylights out of you.

megascarecrowAnother great scary costume is The Mega Scarecrow costume shown on the right that has a terrifying mask with hay hair, hands and feet. It’s a real gruesome sight.

There are some really great scary scarecrow costumes so make sure you take a look at what’s available.  Looking like a scarecrow is a great way to keep way the crows as well as your friends and neighbors this Halloween.

scarecrowchildFor the younger ones, why not try the Scarecrow Child Costume shown here on the left? What more can a kid want than to put on a scary scarecrow mask with attached hood, rough hewn shirt with braided hay belt and long finger gloves.  It’s guaranteed to scare more than the crows.

If you love scarecrows, then look out for scarecrow festivals. These have become very popular annual events, especially in America and the United Kingdom.

The Scarecrow has been one of the villains in comics. For example, the Scarecrow (Dr. Jonathan Crane) is a DC Comics supervillain who appears as an opponent of Batman. He first appeared in 1941 and later became a regular Batman opponent.
